Come to think of it, ask anybody with common sense and he or she will tell you that lighting is a necessity. In the context of home décor, of course, the mind naturally veers towards the decorative effect a lighting fixture has. Before anything else though, it is essential to keep in mind what lighting’s primary function is, and that is to illuminate. Once you have identified the areas that need lighting, you can then determine the spots from which light can strategically emanate. Task lighting is called for if you have a reading chair. You can place an adjustable table and floor lamp next to it, making a note of its height, whether on the floor or on a table, to make the shade level with one’s ears while one’s seated. The great thing about adjustable table and floor lamps is that their dual function caters well to those who love to redecorate. For ambient lighting, you can subtly scatter charming sconces around the room. It would be even better if they work with a dimmer so you can better control the mood in the room. You also want to make sure that there’s lighting that will accent your focal points in the room. Of course, for a well put together room, all the exposed lighting should be aesthetic pieces themselves, so

A room’s lighting is not only essential for practical purposes, it also creates a wealth of difference in terms of mood, atmosphere, and style. It takes great panache to be able to supply and distribute subtle and yet functional lighting throughout a room. That is why many find sconces and wall lamps very appealing. In a bedroom though, bedside lamps are practically a necessity. They are simply convenient to have. Generally, the bedside light comes from twin table lamps. As in choosing other table lamps, you have to be particular about height and size. Naturally, they have to go well with the proportions of the table on which they are placed. In cases when table lamps are placed next to armchairs, the rule is for the bottom of the shade to be at a sitting person’s cheekbone level so that the light is cast on the shoulder downwards doing away with the discomfort of the eyes receiving the bulb’s full glare. Be mindful of the kind of shade a lamp has too. Depending on the amount of light you wish your lamp to emit, your shade may be boldly colored or patterned. Certainly its style must compliment that of the entire room. Floor lamps, on the other hand, can make great focal points. Even more practical are those convertible or adjustable lamps. If you’re the type to redecorate often, these would be a thrill to have. Sometimes you can use them as table lamps and other times, floor lamps.
