Curtains …forever

They may seem like mere background elements, but curtains have a way of setting the tone and atmosphere of a room. Whatever the style or theme of your room may be, there exists the perfect drapery for it. Curtains come in a sea of variety. You have endless choices in styles, fabrics, accessories, rods, etc. The key is in knowing exactly what you want and what the room needs.

For those who tend to adopt the DIY approach, think “prêt-à-poser” or ready-to-install when choosing curtains. It’s the practical choice. It’s as easy as 1-2-3 to install and the result looks professionally done. Curtain technology has certainly come a long way. With grommets, rings, straps, and other types of fixes in place, all you need to do before you hang the rod onto its brackets or anchors is to just slide the curtain right through. You can find ingenious hardware that makes life with curtains easier. For rods that may be too tedious to detach, you can use the anneau-fix, which allows you to hang and remove curtains without having to bring down the rod. For traverse rods, you have something called attache-fix for easier curtain installation. With these nifty innovations, you can create the look you want without fretting over the difficulty of achieving that look.

Guide to Improving Your Home with Curtains, Draperies, and Decoration

Having a nicely decorated home is something most people aspire for. But a lot of individuals have misconceptions about home decoration. The process can actually be quite simple if you choose curtains, draperies, and new paint. The key is to find the right materials and design. Below are a few tips that can guide you.
Appearance – this is the primary consideration among homeowners. The appearance of the drape they choose can make or break the look of an entire room. It is essential to choose natural draperies with natural luster, soft finish, and a rich look because it will provide the room with character.
Hypo-Allergenic – certain individuals are allergic to synthetic fabric because it can hold onto too much dust. In addition, certain materials can even hold pollen and other particles that can be harmful to the health of individuals living in the house. To avoid this problem, it is best to buy draperies made from natural materials such as cotton or silk.
Texture – the texture of the drapery you choose is another important factor. It will influence how the room will feel like. Cotton fabrics are noted to give an airy look and an air of fresh air to the room. On the other hand, linens are absorbent and long-lasting.

Choosing Window Drapes: Guidance and Suggestions

While most homeowners pay little attention to their lighting, it actually plays a big role in creating the atmosphere of their home. Usually, the window is the focal point of any room because it provides natural light, outdoor view, and elegant design. This can be enhanced by using the right drapery. There are a number of factors that should be considered before you make the final decision. To help you find the right drapery, we compiled a list of things you should look into:
Tone
Do you want to make your home look formal or casual? The tone of the drapery can have a significant effect on the atmosphere of a room. When choosing draperies, it is also important to make sure that the item will match other furnishings inside. A formal dining room with stylish furniture should be matched by equally high-quality home decoration.
Coordination and Contrasts
The small details found on the drapery can have a huge impact. For example, fancy trimmings like silk fringes can make any living space feel feminine instantly. If you are the fussy type, then it might be a good idea to look at this option. People who prefer minimalist design may not be happy with too many details though. In this instance, it might be better to choose solid colors that will make the room look sophisticated.

Looking Out New York Windows

Curtains are known to enhance the loveliness of a room. In New York where the general living quarters are on the small side, curtains and window treatments are essential in suggesting the illusion of space. For cramped spaces, light fabrics in light colors are recommended.  Heavy draperies can lend an oppressive atmosphere, which is not something that goes well with the New York lifestyle with its potential for high stress levels. However, New York curtains come in all shapes and sizes, in pretty much the same way New York homes also do. It essentially all goes down to the individual style and needs of a person.
Something to note though is the fact that most New York homes are air conditioned. Home décor New York style is influenced by this. While window treatments and curtain choices need no longer address matters such as heat insulation and noise absorption, considering that the home is pretty much sealed from the elements and outside noise, a dressed window can still function as a focal point of a room. In fact, if one prefers a minimalist curtain style, one can opt to go all out with the choice of curtain rods. One can find anything from plain to romantic to funky, etc. With the number and variety of New York stores, you can pretty much count on finding whatever it is you are looking for.

Life’s Curtains

Renowned French writer Jules Renard once said, “We are born at the rise of the curtain and we die with its fall…” The quote is understandably a metaphor, but it does underline the importance of curtains.
Curtains function in a variety of ways. They can be both practical and decorative. When they lend themselves to practicality, they can be used to block light, drafts, or even water. Draperies are certainly effective in giving the interior of a building privacy from the outside world. In terms of décor, curtains can make or break a room, hence the availability of choices when it comes to material, shape, color, pattern, length, and even the curtain rods they go with. Interior decorators are very much aware of the importance of dressing windows. If anything, this part is pretty much the only glimpse an outsider may have of the interior, at the same time that the window frames one’s view of the outside.
Some of the things one may consider in choosing curtains are cleanability (how much oil and dust they can retain), blocking capabilities (in terms of ultraviolet rays, visibility, weather, and noise), fire resistance, and durability. Sheer curtains, for instance, allow the majority of light while still offering some UV protection. During the day, they offer privacy while still allowing people inside to view the outside. However, they are not particularly good choices for weather insulation. If they don’t meet one’s needs, an ocean of choices is still available to choose from.
